Fashion Meets MIMO!

FASHION MEETS MIMO!

 By Annalisa Damley

Fashion shines its spotlight on the MiMo Historic District! Trina Turk and Julian Chang have recently opened on Biscayne Boulevard between 72nd and 76th Streets, just steps from one another. Soon-to-open Angel Sanchez is nestled in the same neck of the Boulevard. The arrival of these internationally renowned fashion designers cements the Upper Eastside’s MiMo District as a sought-after shopping and dining destination. All three fantastic designers offer a range of beautiful apparel befitting the Miami lifestyle.

Trina Turk has the enviable distinction of launching the first major national fashion brand in the MiMo District. Located at 7200 Biscayne Boulevard, Trina Turk is the Boulevard’s latest gem. Local luminaries, Upper Eastside residents and the Turk team celebrated its much anticipated grand opening on July 7th in swinging style! The MiMo store is bright, colorful, airy and spacious with a happy vibe in keeping with the funky yet glamorous ’50s ambiance of the neighborhood’s iconic motels. Trina Turk is synonymous with color and fun and vintage inspired prints. Manufactured with impeccable quality (approximately 70% in California) and brimful of personality, pieces translate especially well from day to night in our hot-weather city. Complete your outfit with flirty earrings, an eye-catching clutch and a pair of heels from the accessories and footwear collections. Men can elevate their look with a few sharp pieces from the menswear line, Mr. Turk. While you’re there, pick up quirky and charming cards and paper goods from Florida’s own Rifle Paper Company, as well as local books which pay homage to the Magic City. Trina Turk’s décor line features a selection of vibrant towels as well as other contemporary pieces for the home. Dreamy Gray Malin beach prints are also available for purchase. It’s a one stop shopping experience! Open Monday-Saturday, 10am-7pm. Sunday 12pm-5pm.

Just one block north of Trina Turk at 7246 Biscayne Boulevard is the exquisite Julian Chang boutique. Says Chang, “Being part of the MiMo district is huge – both for local designers such as myself and international designers (Trina Turk and Angel Sanchez) who are now here, too. So excited to be part of the movement that is going on in the MiMo district.” Local residents are equally thrilled that Chang has chosen MiMo to launch his flagship boutique. I spent a recent Saturday afternoon there, chatting with the lovely sales associate, Raquel, while noting that the line is made here in the U.S. Excellent! The Chang label embodies quality and is renowned for bold prints, bright colors and striking silhouettes. The summer palette features brilliant blues, lilacs, fuchsia and chartreuse. There are some elegant neutrals as well. I fell in love with an ethereal blue lilac number that floated like a cloud when I moved because of its perfect lining. Complementing the apparel is a choice selection of finely crafted leather accessories and chic jewelry pieces. There is also a small rack of casual yet elegant shirts for men in signature Chang print. Something for everyone! Open Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-7pm. Sunday & Monday by appointment only.

New York-based fashion designer Angel Sanchez choose the MiMo District for his first showroom and studio outside of New York. Sanchez, along with interior designer Christopher Coleman, will open Sanchez + Coleman Studio at 7521 Biscayne Boulevard. The main floor will showcase Sanchez’s monochromatic and colorful cocktail and evening dresses as well as bridal gowns. The mezzanine level above will feature new interior design products such as rugs and wallpaper which Sanchez and Coleman are developing together. Sanchez plans to visit Miami every few weeks to accommodate his Latin American clientele who have homes here. Sanchez’s celebrity devotees include Eva Longoria and Sandra Bullock, both of whom wore Angel Sanchez gowns to their weddings. Major U.S. retailers who stock his ready-to-wear designs include Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. His designs are described as “architectural, contemporary, and feminine; which always include a touch of drama.” By appointment only.

Let’s get shopping! We’ll never be short of something fabulous to wear – whatever the occasion!
